Nominations for our Inspirational Woman in Defence Award 2024 are open
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re announcing our fourth annual Inspirational Woman in Defence Award – celebrating the achievements and efforts of women in the armed forces community.
As part of the campaign, all members of the British armed forces community are invited to nominate friends, family or co-workers.
All women who are currently serving in the armed forces – or have served – are eligible for the award.
Participants are invited to send their nominations, along with a few lines about why they believe their chosen nominee should be named Defence Discount Service Inspirational Woman of the Year to [email protected].
Entries are open from Friday 8th March to Sunday 31st March!
Previous winners include LCpl Natasha Day RAMC, who was the inaugural award winner in 2021. Natasha launched the Defence Breastfeeding Network to provide a safe space for new mothers to feed their children in the military.
Former British Army Major and Physiotherapy Officer, Sally Orange, took the title in 2022 thanks to her extensive fundraising efforts which have raised over half a million pounds for mental health charities, including WWTW (Walking with the Wounded), Ripple Suicide Prevention and Scotty’s Little Soldier.
In 2023, RAF veteran Liz McConaghy, also known as the ‘Chinook Crew Chick’, was named the Defence Discount Service Inspirational Woman of the Year. Liz was the youngest aircrew personnel to be deployed to Iraq, aged 21, as well as the only female crew member on the Chinook for four years. Liz now works as a motivational speaker, talking candidly about her mental health struggles and sharing inspirational stories from her time in the RAF.
This years winner will be announced on 30th April and is set to receive a £500 Virgin Experience Days voucher, as well as an invitation to Defence Discount Service HQ to share their story.
